Guest Episode: 1 - Ruth Poundwhite’s Daily Email Experiment (And How It Got Her More Sales)
Ruth Poundwhite
Email marketing is one of the most powerful tools for growing an online business — but it’s also one that many entrepreneurs struggle with.
How often should you email your list?
Are you emailing too much?
Will people unsubscribe if you show up in their inbox more often?
These are exactly the questions I explored in a recent episode of The Online Business AMA podcast when I sat down with Ruth Poundwhite to talk about a fascinating email marketing experiment she ran in her business.
Ruth Poundwhite is a visibility, sales & mindset coach supporting heart-led and ambitious online business owners. As author of the book Quietly Ambitious, host of the Soulful Sales Show podcast, and through her courses, Ruth has helped over 7,000 online business owners work through their self-doubt and increase their sales and income in a way that honors their energy, values and personality.
During our conversation, Ruth shared an experiment that completely shifted the way she approaches email marketing.
Last year, she decided to test a bold idea: sending daily emails to her list for an entire month.
Now if you’ve ever worried about emailing your list too often, you’re not alone. Many online business owners hold back because they’re afraid of annoying subscribers or increasing unsubscribe rates.
Ruth had those same concerns.
But instead of overthinking it, she decided to treat it as an email marketing experiment.
And the results were surprising.
First, she didn’t see a noticeable spike in unsubscribes. In fact, the fear that emailing more would damage her email list turned out to be largely unfounded.
What she did see was a clear increase in sales from email marketing.
By showing up more frequently in her subscribers’ inboxes, Ruth created more opportunities to share offers, promote workshops, and invite people into her programs. Rather than relying on one large launch, she was able to promote multiple offers throughout the month.
Another unexpected benefit was how much the experiment improved her email writing skills.
Because she was sending emails every day, she quickly learned that short, simple emails performed best. Instead of long explanations, a couple of short paragraphs and a clear call-to-action often generated the most clicks.
The consistency also helped her become much more efficient. Over time, she was able to write and send an email in about ten minutes.
One of the most valuable insights from this conversation was the mindset behind the experiment.
Ruth didn’t approach daily emails as a permanent strategy. Instead, she framed it as a temporary business experiment. That shift removed a lot of pressure and made it easier to follow through without constantly second-guessing herself.
It’s a powerful reminder that many of the best marketing strategies come from simply testing ideas and learning from the results.
Another major takeaway from our conversation is that email can absolutely be the hub of your business.
While social media often gets most of the attention in online marketing, Ruth shared that email has always been her primary platform for connecting with her audience and making sales.
If you’ve ever felt hesitant about emailing your list more often, this episode might encourage you to experiment with increasing your email frequency.
You don’t have to jump straight to daily emails, but gradually sending more emails can normalize selling, build stronger relationships with your subscribers, and create more opportunities for people to buy from you.
If you’d like help feeling more confident selling your offers, Ruth also shares a free resource called the Soulful Sales Workbook and Checklist. It’s designed to help you believe in the transformation your offer provides so you can sell with more clarity and confidence.
